Recall Ladder
Is our spend buying memory or noise?
What it is
Tracks how a brand climbs from being noticed to being chosen, and shows the rung where memory leaks away.
Built on the WCRC 50-parameter model · parameters used
- P1.2Unaided recall
- P1.3Top-of-mind awareness
- P1.5Campaign effectiveness
- P1.7Share of voice vs share of market
Components
- Rung 1: Noticed (campaign recall)
- Rung 2: Remembered unaided
- Rung 3: Named first
- Rung 4: Chosen
- Drop-off between each rung
How it is scored
Each rung scored 0–100; leak = drop between consecutive rungs. Ladder efficiency = Rung 4 ÷ Rung 1. Share of voice vs share of market flags over- or under-spend.
Where and when to apply
- A large ad budget is not showing up in sales
- Planning the media mix for a launch or festival season
- A challenger is out-shouting the brand
Simulation · what-if
If campaign recall rises 5 points, the ladder score rises 1.25 and Brand Power 0.14. If the leak is between "named first" and "chosen", putting the same effort into first-choice preference closes the leak itself, so spend there first.
Indicative, all else unchanged. Your actual reading comes from a WCRC assessment.
