Danone
Danone is a French food and nutrition company founded in Barcelona in 1919 as a yoghurt business and now based in Paris, selling in more than 120 markets through brands such as Activia, Alpro, Evian and Aptamil. In 2025 sales grew 4.5% like-for-like to €27.3bn, with a recurring operating margin of 13.4% and net income of €1,825m; it holds S&P BBB+ and Moody's Baa1 ratings. In 2026 it agreed to buy Huel for about GBP860m. WCRC's research found the brand strongest in environmental action and responsible sourcing, and in purpose built into its governance as the first listed company to adopt French 'société à mission' status in 2020.

What WCRC found
Purpose written into governance: in 2020 it became the first listed company to adopt 'société à mission' status.
Responsible sourcing, with 42% of key ingredients from farms in regenerative transition in 2025, above its 30% target.
Measurable climate progress, including a 29.8% cut in fresh-milk methane since 2020 and 97.9% deforestation-free key commodities.
What holds it back: The corporate brand is less visible to consumers than Activia or Evian, and the 2025 Aqua groundwater controversy in Indonesia dented its reputation.
