The Dassault Systèmes story

Dassault Systèmes was spun out of Dassault Aviation in 1981 to develop the three-dimensional design software the aircraft maker had built for its own engineers. That software, CATIA, went on to shape how aircraft, cars and ships are designed around the world.

What makes Dassault Systèmes powerful

The company's power comes from being built into the way industry works. Engineers at carmakers, aerospace groups and medical device firms design and test products in its software long before anything is made. Acquisitions such as SOLIDWORKS widened its reach to smaller manufacturers, and its 3DEXPERIENCE platform links design, simulation and production in one place.

Dassault Systèmes today

Today Dassault Systèmes describes its mission as creating virtual twins of products, factories and even the human body, so that they can be tested and improved in software first. It remains headquartered in Vélizy-Villacoublay near Paris, with the Dassault family group as its main shareholder.

What comes next for Dassault Systèmes

What comes next is artificial intelligence. The company is building AI into its platform so that engineers can explore more designs faster, and it is pushing further into life sciences, where virtual testing could shorten the path to new treatments.
