The Montblanc story
Montblanc was founded in Hamburg in 1906 by stationer Claus-Johannes Voss, banker Alfred Nehemias and engineer August Eberstein. Their first fountain pen was the Rouge et Noir. In 1910 the company adopted the name Montblanc, after Western Europe's highest peak, and in 1924 it launched the Meisterstück, still its signature pen.
What makes Montblanc powerful
Montblanc's power comes from the Meisterstück and the white star emblem, which represents the snow-capped peak of Mont Blanc. For many people a Montblanc pen marks an achievement, a graduation or a promotion. The brand has extended its craftsmanship into watches, made in Switzerland, and into leather goods.
Montblanc today
Montblanc has been owned by Richemont, the Swiss luxury group, since 1993. Its writing instruments are still made in Hamburg and its leather goods in Florence. The Montblanc Cultural Foundation supports the arts.
