The Peugeot story
Peugeot is one of the oldest names in industry. In 1810 the Peugeot family turned a mill in the Montbéliard region of eastern France into a steel foundry, and the business went on to make saws, tools, coffee mills and pepper mills. The lion emblem was registered in 1858 to signal the strength of its steel. Armand Peugeot moved the family into cars, and the first Peugeot automobiles appeared around 1890.
What makes Peugeot powerful
Peugeot's power comes from more than two centuries of continuity and a reputation for well-designed everyday cars. Models such as the 205, launched in 1983, and today's 208 and 3008 have made the lion one of the most visible badges on European roads. Its success in endurance racing, including victories at Le Mans, has given the brand a sporting edge.
Peugeot today
Peugeot merged with Citroën in 1976 to form PSA, and in 2021 PSA combined with Fiat Chrysler to create Stellantis, which is registered in the Netherlands and run from Europe. The Peugeot family remains a long-term shareholder. Stellantis is led by Antonio Filosa, and Peugeot is one of its core brands.
What comes next for Peugeot
Peugeot's next step is to make its electric range competitive on price and range, using Stellantis's new platforms, while keeping the design and driving feel its buyers expect.
