Recognition A–Z / Research and evidence

Assessed universe

An assessed universe is the set of entities eligible for inclusion in a particular study. It establishes the boundary of any comparative result.

What to review

Check the inclusion rules, excluded entities and cut-off date. Ask whether the universe is a full eligible population or a subset that responded or submitted evidence.

A practical example

A list drawn from participating companies cannot automatically describe all companies in a country. The published universe determines what the comparison can reasonably mean.

Keep the claim in scope

Keep the population beside the result. A larger-sounding label must not replace the actual inclusion rules.

Research and editorial context

A result is meaningful within its methodology. Match the research question, assessed universe and measurement period before making a comparison. These reference notes explain evaluation concepts; they do not add indicators, weights or thresholds to any published WCRC study.

Examples illustrate a decision and do not describe a named organisation's conduct. This is a reference note, not a new research finding or an award outcome.
