Recognition A–Z / Business and management

Change management and decision ownership

Change management needs clear ownership of the decisions that affect work. Communication and training cannot resolve an authority gap on their own.

What to review

Identify who can change the process, approve exceptions and address unresolved concerns. Check handovers between business functions.

A practical example

When a technology rollout changes job responsibilities, the project team and people team need an agreed route for decisions about those responsibilities.

Keep the claim in scope

Avoid describing a launch date as proof that a new way of working has been adopted.

Research and editorial context

A useful management framework makes a decision easier to examine. It should identify its assumptions and the evidence needed to challenge them. These notes are practical WCRC interpretation, not measured outcomes or recommendations for investing in a particular company.

Examples illustrate a decision and do not describe a named organisation's conduct. This is a reference note, not a new research finding or an award outcome.
