Recognition A–Z / Career

Moving into a management role

A move into management changes the work a person is responsible for. Success in an individual role does not automatically demonstrate readiness for every managerial duty.

What to review

Clarify responsibilities for planning, feedback and escalation. Identify support and review points during the transition.

A practical example

A strong technical contributor may need practice in assigning work through others. The organisation should explain expectations rather than assuming the title provides the skill.

Keep the claim in scope

Avoid presenting management as the only valid route for career progress.

Research and editorial context

A career claim should describe a contribution that the person can explain and substantiate. Keep team outcomes and individual responsibility distinct. These notes offer questions for professional judgment; no qualification, promotion or employment outcome is guaranteed.

Examples illustrate a decision and do not describe a named organisation's conduct. This is a reference note, not a new research finding or an award outcome.
