Recognition A–Z / Career

Career development and evidence of learning

Career development involves increasing the ability to do relevant work. Evidence of learning should show more than course attendance where application is the objective.

What to review

Identify the skill, a suitable practice opportunity and feedback from someone able to observe it. Keep the starting level and intended task clear.

A practical example

A person learning analysis can produce a reviewed work sample and explain their reasoning. A completion certificate serves a different purpose.

Keep the claim in scope

Do not imply that a course or recognition guarantees promotion or employment.

Research and editorial context

A career claim should describe a contribution that the person can explain and substantiate. Keep team outcomes and individual responsibility distinct. These notes offer questions for professional judgment; no qualification, promotion or employment outcome is guaranteed.

Examples illustrate a decision and do not describe a named organisation's conduct. This is a reference note, not a new research finding or an award outcome.
