Recognition A–Z / Research and evidence

Thresholds and qualification

A threshold states the point at which a defined condition is met. It should be established and explained within the relevant methodology.

What to review

Check the scale, decision boundary and whether any mandatory conditions apply separately. Ask how borderline or incomplete cases are handled.

A practical example

A programme can require both a total score and evidence on a particular safeguard. Meeting the total alone may not satisfy every condition.

Keep the claim in scope

Do not transfer a threshold between different studies. Identical numbers can represent different measures.

Research and editorial context

A result is meaningful within its methodology. Match the research question, assessed universe and measurement period before making a comparison. These reference notes explain evaluation concepts; they do not add indicators, weights or thresholds to any published WCRC study.

Examples illustrate a decision and do not describe a named organisation's conduct. This is a reference note, not a new research finding or an award outcome.
