What makes FedEx powerful
FedEx's power comes from a promise of speed and reliability that customers will pay for. The company has more than 500,000 employees and moves packages on time-definite schedules around the world. That pricing power showed in its fiscal third quarter, which ended in February 2026. Higher package yields, cost savings and a 3% rise in average daily volume drove adjusted earnings of $5.25 a share, well above the $4.09 to $4.15 analysts expected.
In 2026 FedEx also sharpened its focus on the parcel brand customers know best. On June 1 it completed the spin-off of FedEx Freight, its less-than-truckload business, as a separate company listed on the New York Stock Exchange as FDXF. FedEx kept a 19.9% stake, which it plans to dispose of within 24 months. The core FedEx brand can now put all its attention on express and ground delivery.
When FedEx spun off FedEx Freight on June 1, 2026, shareholders received one FedEx Freight share for every two FedEx shares they held.
Why FedEx ranks #72
FedEx sits at #72 with a WCRC Power Score of 70.72, just behind PayPal and Intuit and just ahead of Lowe's and Coach. Its name is closely tied to fast shipping, which gives it strong positioning and recall and solid consumer trust. Tariffs and weak global trade weigh on its financial strength compared with the payments and software brands above. Its global reach and dependable service keep it ahead of Lowe's and Coach.
The Achilles' heel
FedEx's Achilles' heel is its exposure to global trade. Its network depends on goods moving across borders, so tariffs and trade disputes weigh on its volumes and costs. After the Supreme Court ruled that tariffs imposed under the IEEPA emergency powers law were illegal, FedEx sued the federal government for a full refund, and some of its own customers sued FedEx seeking their share. A business built on moving goods across borders feels every new trade barrier.
The 2026 story
FedEx's 2026 is a year of reshaping. In March it reported fiscal third-quarter adjusted earnings of $5.25 a share and raised its full-year forecast to $19.30 to $20.10 a share, from $17.80 to $19.00. Its shares rose about 8% in early trading the next day. On June 1 it completed the spin-off of FedEx Freight. Shareholders received one FDXF share for every two FedEx shares, and the new company began regular trading that day. Chief executive Raj Subramaniam said the move positions FedEx Freight "to build on its market-leading scale."
