The Ericsson story

Lars Magnus Ericsson opened a telegraph repair workshop in Stockholm in 1876 and soon began making his own telephones. Ericsson grew into one of the world's main suppliers of telephone exchanges and, later, mobile networks.

What makes Ericsson powerful

Ericsson's brand power is strongest with the operators who build mobile networks. A large share of the world's mobile traffic passes through its equipment, and it has played a leading role in setting the standards for each generation of mobile technology, from 2G to 5G.

Ericsson today

Ericsson is headquartered in Stockholm and controlled by Swedish shareholders including Investor AB and Industrivärden. Per Narvinger leads the company as President and CEO. Its patent portfolio brings in licensing income from phone makers worldwide.

What comes next for Ericsson

Ericsson's next challenge is to turn 5G into new revenue through network software and services for businesses, while preparing for 6G and coping with slower spending by operators.
