What makes Chase powerful
Chase is the consumer and small-business bank of JPMorgan Chase, serving more than 86 million consumers and 7.4 million small businesses. It operates more than 5,000 branches in 48 states and Washington, D.C., and it is still building. In 2026 it planned to open more than 160 branches in over 30 states.
Digital use is growing just as fast. JPMorgan Chase had 64.9 million active mobile customers in the third quarter of 2026, up 7%, and debit and credit card sales volume rose 10% to $539.5 billion. Its card lineup is a big draw. In January 2026 Chase agreed to become the new issuer of Apple Card, bringing one of the best-known cards in the country under its roof.

Why Chase ranks #38
Chase sits at #38 with a WCRC Power Score of 74.05, just behind ESPN and Enterprise and just ahead of Home Depot and Airbnb. Its branch network and cards give it strong recall and financial strength. It trails ESPN on emotional pull and Enterprise on service image, since fees and fraud weigh on how people feel about banks. It edges Home Depot and Airbnb on daily use and digital reach.
The Achilles' heel
Fees and fraud are Chase's weak spots. Premium cards with high annual fees test how much customers will pay for perks. Fraud is a constant fight. In October 2024 Chase began suing customers who allegedly took thousands of dollars through a viral 'infinite money glitch', and in April 2025 it sued more. Each case reminds customers that a big bank is also a big target.
The 2026 story
Chase kept growing in 2026. In January it agreed to take over the Apple Card from Goldman Sachs. In February it said it would open more than 160 branches in over 30 states during the year and renovate nearly 600 locations. In June Marianne Lake, who had led consumer banking, announced her retirement, and Troy Rohrbaugh was named CEO of Consumer & Community Banking. In the third quarter, active mobile customers rose 7% to 64.9 million.
