What makes Chevrolet powerful

Chevrolet is General Motors' mass-market brand and one of the most familiar names on American roads. Its range runs from the Silverado pickup and the Corvette sports car to family SUVs such as the Equinox and Blazer. The gold bowtie badge appears on trucks, crossovers and electric cars sold through a national dealer network, and for many families it has been the default choice for generations.

The brand's strength is breadth. Chevrolet offers gas and electric versions of its core models, including the Equinox EV, Blazer EV and Silverado EV. It also brought back its best-known affordable electric car. The 2027 Chevy Bolt starts at $28,995, uses a lithium iron phosphate battery and has a company-estimated range of 255 miles. It also has a built-in NACS charging port and can charge from 10% to 80% in about 26 minutes.

When Chevrolet revealed the 2027 Bolt in October 2025, its $28,995 starting price made it the cheapest new electric car in America, according to InsideEVs.

Why Chevrolet ranks #87

Chevrolet sits at #87 with a WCRC Power Score of 69.68. Its recall is among the strongest in the automotive sector, and GM's scale supports its financial strength. Zoom and Hyatt, just above it, edge ahead on product and innovation momentum this year. Chevrolet stays ahead of Capital One and Best Buy, just below, because its trucks and SUVs reach a huge share of American households, even as its electric push hits turbulence.

The Achilles' heel

Chevrolet's weak spot in 2026 is its electric business. After the $7,500 federal EV tax credit ended on Sept. 30, 2025, demand fell sharply, and the year-earlier rush to beat the deadline made the comparison worse. GM sold just 1,905 Chevy Equinox EVs in the third quarter of 2026, down 92% from more than 25,000 a year earlier. Blazer EV sales fell 84% and Silverado EV sales fell 58% in the same quarter. GM's total US sales fell 5.5% that quarter.

The 2026 story

Chevrolet's 2026 story is a reset of its electric strategy around price. In October 2025, it revealed the 2027 Bolt, a longer-range return of its popular small EV, built at GM's Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas. Production began in early 2026, but GM has said it plans to end Bolt production in 2027, making it a limited run. The Bolt added 3,866 sales in the third quarter of 2026. Even so, the wider EV slowdown hit hard, with Chevy's Equinox EV, Blazer EV and Silverado EV all posting steep sales drops that quarter.
