Master methodology v1.3 · §3.4, §3.5
The measurement period is every NSE and BSE trading session from 1 July to 31 December of the measurement year — 126 sessions for this edition. The exact period, the session count per exchange, the time zone and the price convention are printed publicly.
Why this window
The SEBI LODR Regulations, as amended in 2024, require each stock exchange to rank listed entities on average market capitalisation from 1 July to 31 December, and market-cap-based obligations use that ranking. The WCRC 1000 adopts the same window so it is resistant to single-day spikes, can be cross-checked against the exchanges' own lists, and is meaningful to the companies ranked.
The WCRC ranking is not the official regulatory list and must never be presented as determining any company's regulatory obligations.
§3.4
Two exchanges, one number
Prices are the official exchange closing price from the bhavcopy, never a screen quote or last-traded-price field. For a company listed on both exchanges, the period average is computed separately on each and the ranking value is the simple mean of the two. In practice the two averages differ by fractions of a percent.
The 2% exception rule
Where the two exchange averages differ by more than 2%, an exception is raised — usually a share-count or price-basis mismatch — and resolved before the ranking is locked. Nineteen companies triggered this in the Inaugural Edition; in every case inclusion was unaffected. Those companies carry a published data note on their page.
Never choose the higher price to improve a rank.
