Citi

Citi is the brand of Citigroup Inc., a United States bank headquartered at 388 Greenwich Street in New York City. The group was formed by the 1998 merger of Citicorp and Travelers, with predecessors dating to 1812, and the Citibank name began in the 1860s as an eight-letter telegraph code. Citi reported FY2025 revenue of US$85.2 billion and total assets of US$2.6 trillion. Under Jane Fraser, chief executive since 2021 and chair since October 2025, it is simplifying its business, including selling a further 24% of Banamex for about US$2.5 billion in February 2026. WCRC's research found Citi strongest in brand recall, in the distinctiveness of its arc logo, and in financial stability, backed by investment-grade ratings with a positive outlook from one agency.

What WCRC found

  1. High global brand recall, built on a name dating back to an 1860s telegraph code.

  2. A distinctive visual identity in the Citi arc logo.

  3. Investment-grade financial stability on FY2025 revenue of US$85.2 billion and US$2.6 trillion in assets.

What holds it back: Regulatory compliance is its weakest area, with US$136 million in penalties in 2025 for data-management failures on top of earlier consent orders.
