What makes Nasdaq powerful
Nasdaq is powerful because its name does its marketing for it. Share of Voice vs Share of Market scores 88, Nasdaq's highest parameter in the WCRC World's Most Powerful 100 Brands 2026: the Nasdaq Composite and the Nasdaq-100 are quoted in news bulletins, apps and headlines around the world every trading day, giving a company with US$5.25bn of net revenue a voice far larger than its size. 'Nasdaq' has become the default word for technology stocks, and that puts it at the centre of the AI market story. Brand Positioning & Recall, at 80.2, is its strongest pillar.
The second driver is what sits behind the name. Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery scores 86, because Nasdaq is now as much a software company as an exchange. Annualised recurring revenue reached US$3.1bn in 2025, up 10%, with software-as-a-service making up 38% of it. Brand Extension Credibility scores 84: FinTech recurring revenue grew 12% and Financial Crime Management Technology 22%, and clients of its Verafin anti-fraud business renew and expand at a net revenue retention rate of 112%. Nasdaq is also rolling out agentic AI tools for those clients.
Governance is a quiet strength. Sustainability, Governance & ESG scores 72.8, 10th of all 100 brands, helped by strong governance disclosure and validated climate targets. The finances are sound: GAAP net income rose 60% to US$1.79bn, Nasdaq paid down US$826m of debt cutting its debt multiple to 2.9 times, and both Moody's (Baa1) and S&P (BBB+) upgraded it in 2025. The limits come from being business-to-business. Consumer Trust & Sentiment scores 70.4, 90th of 100, and Brand Love & Emotional Affinity sits at 60, because few people feel attached to an exchange.
Why Nasdaq ranks #67
Nasdaq's three strongest WCRC parameters show a brand whose daily visibility, technology platform and clear identity outweigh its modest size.
1.07Share of Voice vs Share of Market88
Share of Voice vs Share of Market: the Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq-100 are cited in market headlines every trading day, so the brand's visibility far exceeds its revenue share.
3.08Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery86
Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery: Nasdaq sells market technology as well as trading, with software-as-a-service at 38% of its US$3.1bn of recurring revenue and FinTech SaaS up 19% in the fourth quarter of 2025.
1.01Positioning Clarity & Coherence84
Positioning Clarity & Coherence: Nasdaq is clearly the exchange and market-technology platform of the technology economy, a position anchored by the Nasdaq-100 index franchise.
The Achilles' heel
2.03Brand Love & Emotional Affinity60
Brand Love & Emotional Affinity scores 60, Nasdaq's weakest parameter. As a business-to-business exchange and software provider, it is admired and widely recognised but rarely loved, and it publishes little that would show emotional attachment.
What would move it: Using its Times Square MarketSite, listing ceremonies and investor-education content to tell more human stories about the companies and people it serves would give the brand warmth to match its fame.
The 2026 story
Nasdaq had a strong 2025. Net revenue rose 13% to US$5.25bn, total revenues were US$8.22bn including transaction rebates, and GAAP net income attributable to shareholders rose 60% to US$1.79bn.
The transformation into a technology company continued. Recurring revenue reached US$3.1bn, Financial Crime Management Technology grew 22%, and Nasdaq began offering an agentic AI workforce to Verafin clients. The business is organised in three divisions: Capital Access Platforms, Financial Technology and Market Services.
The balance sheet strengthened. Nasdaq repaid US$826m of debt, cutting its debt multiple to 2.9 times, and Moody's and S&P upgraded it to Baa1 and BBB+. The main risk is concentration: its brand is closely tied to how technology stocks and the AI trade perform.
