How the Power Score adds up
Each pillar's score multiplied by its WCRC weight. The segments sum to 76.00.
DBS's power starts with trust. Composite Consumer Trust Score is 92 and Competitive Trust Differential 90, two of its three highest WCRC parameters, and Consumer Trust & Sentiment stands at 76.2. In Singapore, DBS and its POSB brand run the largest ATM network and hold primary banking relationships with a large share of households. Lenders trust it too: Moody's rates DBS Aa1, and S&P and Fitch rate it AA-, with a CET1 capital ratio of 16.6%. Few banks anywhere carry ratings that high.
Its strongest pillar is Digital Presence & Financial Soundness at 80.8, followed by Product, Innovation & Delivery at 78.2. Financial Stability Indicator scores 94. In 2025 DBS earned record profit before tax of SGD13.1bn on total income of SGD22.9bn, with a return on equity of 16.2%, and in the first half of 2026 net profit reached SGD6.01bn. DBS has spent a decade presenting itself as a technology company that happens to be a bank. Its AI programmes produced a record SGD1bn of value in 2025, Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery scores 88, and its 'Live more, Bank less' positioning is consistent across 14 markets.
The weak points sit in Sustainability, Governance & ESG, its lowest pillar at 68.2. Circular Economy & Waste Reduction scores 60, its lowest parameter, reflecting limited disclosure. Service reliability is the bigger reputational scar. Repeated digital outages in 2023 led the Monetary Authority of Singapore to call them unacceptable, require SGD1.6bn of extra capital and impose a six-month pause on new business ventures. DBS has recovered since, and its power today rests on being both the safe bank and the modern one in a fast-growing region.
Why DBS ranks #49
DBS's brand power comes from trust that runs deeper than most banks enjoy, a balance sheet rated among the strongest in global banking, and a lead in digital delivery. Its WCRC Power Score of 76.00 places it #49 in the world.
5.07Financial Stability Indicator94
Financial Stability Indicator: DBS is rated Aa1 by Moody's and AA- by S&P and Fitch, and reported a CET1 ratio of 16.6%. It is DBS's highest-scoring parameter, at 94.
2.01Composite Consumer Trust Score92
Composite Consumer Trust Score: DBS and POSB are the main bank for many Singapore households, and wealth assets under management passed SGD500bn in 2026, a sign of how much customers entrust to it.
2.10Competitive Trust Differential90
Competitive Trust Differential: DBS's trust lead over other banks is among the widest in the sector, helped by its high credit ratings and a clean recovery from its 2023 outages.
The Achilles' heel
4.09Circular Economy & Waste Reduction60
Circular Economy & Waste Reduction scores 60, DBS's lowest. Banks have a small physical footprint, but DBS publishes little on waste and circularity, and financed emissions draw growing scrutiny across the sector.
What would move it: Publishing clear targets for operational waste and stronger, audited data on financed emissions would lift this score and the wider ESG pillar.
The 2026 story
DBS's first full year under Tan Su Shan, who became CEO in March 2025, delivered record pre-tax earnings. Profit before tax reached SGD13.1bn in 2025 on total income of SGD22.9bn, up 3%. Net profit slipped 3% to SGD11.0bn because of the new 15% global minimum tax.
Momentum carried into 2026. Second-quarter net profit rose 9% to SGD3.08bn, wealth assets under management passed SGD500bn, and DBS completed the first synthetic securitisation by a Singapore-headquartered bank. It also added SGD and USD deposits and withdrawals for Crypto.com users, extending its reach into digital assets.
The main risk is operational. The 2023 outages showed how fast a digital-first reputation can be dented, and the regulator's penalties were severe. Lower interest rates could also slow income growth, testing how well wealth and fee businesses can carry the bank.
Five-year comparison

WCRC analysis
DBS's total income rose every year, from SGD14.3bn in 2021 to SGD22.9bn in 2025, about 60% higher. Profit before tax grew faster, from SGD7.8bn to SGD13.1bn. The big jumps came in 2022 and 2023 as higher interest rates lifted earnings; growth then slowed sharply, with income up just 3% in 2025.
Pre-tax profit as a share of income rose from 54% in 2021 to 57% in 2025, a sign of tight cost control. Record profits five years running give DBS the capital strength behind its high ratings, the base of its brand power. The flattening in 2025 shows the next phase depends on wealth and fees, not rates.
