What makes Nvidia powerful

Nvidia is the brand the AI industry is built on. Its graphics processors train and run most large AI models, and its CUDA software gives developers a platform they already know, which makes switching costly. Nvidia no longer sells only chips. It sells whole rack-scale systems that combine processors, networking and software.

Its Vera Rubin platform, unveiled at GTC in March 2026, packs seven chips into systems that Nvidia says deliver up to 10 times more inference throughput per watt than Blackwell. Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure all said they would offer it, and Anthropic, Meta, Mistral AI and OpenAI were named as customers. At the same event Jensen Huang said Nvidia's purchase order pipeline for Blackwell and Vera Rubin now targets $1 trillion through 2027.

Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform combines seven chips, including the Groq 3 LPU, the first chip to come out of its Groq deal.

Why Nvidia ranks #3

Nvidia sits at #3 in the US ranking, behind Apple and Google and just ahead of YouTube and Microsoft. It scores very high on product and innovation and on digital and financial strength. Apple and Google still lead on everyday consumer recall and trust, because billions of people use their products directly. Nvidia's brand is strongest with businesses and developers, which keeps it just below the two consumer giants but above YouTube.

The Achilles' heel

Nvidia depends on a small number of very large buyers. In fiscal 2026, which ended in January 2026, its largest direct customer accounted for 22% of revenue and the second for 14%, so a pullback by either would hurt. China is another weak spot. Washington cleared the H200 chip for export to China with conditions, but Beijing has held back imports, leaving shipments stuck.

The 2026 story

Nvidia's 2026 story is scale. In December 2025 it agreed to license inference technology from chip startup Groq and hire its leaders, in a deal reported at about $20 billion. At GTC on March 16, 2026, Jensen Huang unveiled the Vera Rubin platform, including a Groq 3 LPX rack, and said products would reach customers in the second half of the year. On August 26, 2026, Nvidia reported second-quarter data center revenue up 117% from a year earlier, and said Vera Rubin was in full production, with racks running at partners such as CoreWeave, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle.
