HSBC

HSBC is a London-headquartered banking group founded in 1865, operating in 57 countries and territories with about 39 million customers, and earning about two-thirds of its profits in Asia. HSBC Holdings plc reported 2025 revenue of US$64.424bn, and in the first half of 2026 profit before tax rose 23% to US$19.5bn, with a CET1 ratio of 14.1% and a buyback of up to US$1bn. In October 2025 it completed the US$14bn privatisation of Hang Seng Bank. WCRC's research found the brand strongest in its competitive financial position, in financial stability with Fitch A+ and positive outlooks from Moody's and S&P, and in a distinctive hexagon logo and clear international-bank positioning.

What WCRC found

  1. Strong financial position, with first-half 2026 profit before tax up 23% to US$19.5bn.

  2. Solid credit standing: Fitch A+, with positive outlooks from Moody's and S&P.

  3. Distinctive hexagon logo and a clear international-bank positioning across 57 markets.

What holds it back: Its environmental credibility suffered when it quit the Net-Zero Banking Alliance in July 2025, and legacy anti-money-laundering fines still weigh on its compliance record.
