Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. is a century-old American film and television studio founded in 1923, now part of Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc., which is headquartered in New York City. Its intellectual property includes DC, Harry Potter and HBO, and the HBO Max streaming platform gives it a large direct digital footprint. Warner Bros. Discovery reported FY2025 revenue of US$37.3 billion and net income of US$727 million. In 2026 it agreed to a US$110 billion takeover by Paramount Skydance, approved by shareholders in April, but 12 state attorneys general sued to block the deal, with a trial set for March 2027. WCRC screened Warner Bros. on its six-dimension Research Matrix and found it strongest in media presence, in industry standing built on iconic franchises, and in its streaming footprint.

What WCRC found

  1. Very high media presence, with its takeover contest one of the leading media stories of 2025 and 2026.

  2. Strong industry standing built on iconic properties including DC, Harry Potter and HBO.

  3. A large direct digital footprint through the HBO Max streaming platform.

What holds it back: Finances are its weak point: net income was only US$727 million on US$37.3 billion revenue, debt is heavy, and ownership is uncertain.
