How the Power Score adds up
Each pillar's score multiplied by its WCRC weight. The segments sum to 82.66.
YouTube's power rests on habit at planetary scale. Around 2.7 billion people use it every month, Shorts alone draws 200 billion daily views, and youtube.com is one of the most visited websites in the world. That reach explains its two strongest WCRC pillars: Brand Positioning & Recall at 89.3 and Digital Presence & Financial Soundness at 89.0. Few brands are named so readily when people think of a whole category; for online video, YouTube is the category.
The second driver is the creator economy it built and still runs. YouTube says it paid more than US$100 billion to creators, artists and media companies over four years, and that money keeps a constant supply of new content flowing. Alphabet reported that YouTube's advertising and subscription revenue together passed US$60 billion in 2025, across the free service, Premium, Music and YouTube TV. On Product, Innovation & Delivery it scores 83.5, led by a 96 for Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery: the same service runs on phones, laptops and living-room televisions with almost no friction.
Its backing matters too. As part of Alphabet, which earned net income of US$132.2 billion in 2025, YouTube can fund AI creation tools, likeness protection and teen safeguards that smaller platforms cannot. Consumer Trust & Sentiment, at 82.5, is solid rather than spectacular, held back by complaints about ad load and slow creator support. The clear gap is Sustainability, Governance & ESG at 66.3, where content moderation, child safety and regulatory fines weigh on the score. Even so, YouTube combines scale, culture and money in a way no other media brand in the 2026 ranking matches.
Why YouTube ranks #6
YouTube's three highest WCRC parameters all come from its scale as a digital service: the reach of its website, the recall of its name and the technology that delivers video everywhere. It scores 89.3 on Brand Positioning & Recall, the pillar WCRC weights most heavily.
5.02Website Authority & Digital UX97
Website Authority & Digital UX: youtube.com is among the most visited websites worldwide, and the same experience carries across mobile, desktop and connected TV. It scores 97.
1.02Unaided Brand Recall96
Unaided Brand Recall: with about 2.7 billion monthly users, YouTube is the name people reach for first when they think of online video. It scores 96.
3.08Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery96
Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery: a fully digital service streaming at global scale, with 200 billion daily Shorts views reported by YouTube in 2026. It scores 96.
The Achilles' heel
4.08ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance55
ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance scores 55, YouTube's lowest. Child-safety and content-moderation scrutiny continues, the September 2025 reinstatement of creators banned for misinformation drew criticism, and Russian courts have fined Google over restrictions on Russian channels.
What would move it: Publishing YouTube-level transparency and safety reporting, and applying moderation rules more consistently, would lift this parameter and steady its crisis-resilience score.
The 2026 story
YouTube opened 2026 with CEO Neal Mohan's annual letter on 21 January, setting out new AI creation tools, protections for creators' likenesses, a push against low-quality AI content and wider controls for teenagers.
The business kept growing. Alphabet reported that YouTube's advertising and subscription revenue together passed US$60 billion in 2025, and fourth-quarter YouTube advertising revenue reached US$11.4 billion, up from US$10.5 billion a year earlier.
The risks sit in governance rather than demand. Age-estimation and verification rules introduced in 2025 drew privacy concerns, policy reversals on banned creators drew safety criticism, and the platform remains blocked in several countries, including China.
Five-year comparison
Official figures as reported, USD m. Alphabet Inc. consolidated figures; YouTube is not a reported segment. Alphabet states YouTube ads and subscriptions together exceeded US$60bn in 2025.

WCRC analysis
Alphabet's revenue rose 56% in four years, from US$257.6bn in 2021 to US$402.8bn in 2025. Operating margin dipped from 30.6% in 2021 to 26.5% in 2022, when advertising slowed, then recovered to 32.0% in 2025 as income from operations reached US$129.0bn.
For YouTube this means a parent that grows and earns more each year, funding AI tools, creator payouts and infrastructure. YouTube's own scale is visible inside the group: its advertising and subscription revenue passed US$60bn in 2025, which places it among the largest media businesses in the world by revenue.
