What makes Real Madrid powerful
Real Madrid's power is built on a simple claim that its history keeps proving: it is the club that wins. Fifteen European Cups, more than any other club, give it a Positioning Clarity & Coherence score of 94 and a Brand Positioning & Recall pillar of 86.6, its strongest. The all-white kit and crowned crest are instantly recognised, and the club's image is so strong that Leeds United switched to all-white shirts in the 1960s to copy it.
The second driver is emotion, which turns into money. Brand Love & Emotional Affinity scores 94 and Social Media Presence & Engagement Quality 96: Real Madrid is followed by more people on social media than any other sports club. Consumer Trust & Sentiment scores 81.1. That loyalty pays. Revenue excluding player sales reached a record €1,221.3m in 2025-26, made up of €539m from marketing, €363m from the stadium and €319m from television and international competitions. EBITDA rose 18% to €287.4m, and the club closed its 26th consecutive year in profit, with net debt of only €8.7m after a stadium rebuild costing €1,407.7m.
What holds the score back is the pitch and governance. Product, Innovation & Delivery scores 75.6 because 2025-26 ended without a major trophy: Barcelona won La Liga and Bayern Munich knocked Real Madrid out of the Champions League. Sustainability, Governance & ESG, at 63.3, is the weakest pillar, since the club publishes little sustainability data and its governance centres on the president. The brand kept growing anyway, which says a great deal about its strength.
Why Real Madrid ranks #23
Real Madrid's strongest parameters show a brand that people love, follow and understand: a clear identity as football's most successful club, turned into the largest social following in sport.
5.01Social Media Presence & Engagement Quality96
Social Media Presence & Engagement Quality: Real Madrid is the most followed sports club on social media, giving sponsors a global audience every match day.
2.03Brand Love & Emotional Affinity94
Brand Love & Emotional Affinity: football fandom is lifelong, and Real Madrid's members and supporters stayed loyal through a trophyless 2025-26, when revenue still rose to a record €1,221.3m.
1.01Positioning Clarity & Coherence94
Positioning Clarity & Coherence: the club's promise of excellence is backed by a record 15 European Cups, and it has held the same all-white identity for more than a century.
The Achilles' heel
4.09Circular Economy & Waste Reduction60
Circular Economy & Waste Reduction scores 60, Real Madrid's lowest parameter. The club publishes no sustainability report and no data on waste, recycling or the environmental footprint of the rebuilt Santiago Bernabéu, which now hosts concerts and events as well as football.
What would move it: Publishing an annual sustainability report with waste, energy and recycling targets for the stadium and training grounds would lift this parameter and the whole governance pillar.
The 2026 story
On the pitch, 2025-26 was difficult. Xabi Alonso left as head coach in January 2026 after seven months, Barcelona won La Liga in May, and Bayern Munich eliminated Real Madrid from the Champions League 6-4 on aggregate. In May the club fined Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni €500,000 each after a fight between the two players.
Off the pitch, the club set records. Accounts approved on 28 July 2026 showed revenue excluding player transfers of €1,221.3m, up 3.1%, EBITDA of €287.4m and net profit of €26.3m. Real Madrid had already become, in 2023-24, the first football club to report more than €1bn in revenue.
The main risk is sporting. A third season without a major trophy would test the patience of members and sponsors. The club also remains in legal disputes linked to the proposed European Super League, which strain relations with football's governing bodies.
Five-year comparison
Official figures as reported, EUR m. Real Madrid C.F. operating revenue excluding player transfers and the stadium project, seasons ending 30 June, as published by the club; the club reports EBITDA (€287.4m in 2025-26) rather than operating income, so operating income is left blank.

WCRC analysis
Real Madrid's revenue rose 69% in four years, from €721.5m in 2021-22 to €1,221.3m in 2025-26. The defining moment was 2023-24, when revenue jumped 27% to €1,073.2m, making Real Madrid the first football club to pass €1bn. Growth has since slowed to 3.1%.
The growth came through seasons with and without trophies, which is the clearest sign of brand power: fans, sponsors and stadium visitors keep paying regardless of results. The slowdown to 3.1% in 2025-26 suggests that the next leap will depend on new commercial income from the rebuilt Bernabéu and beyond.
