Bharti Airtel’s India mobile business earned an average of ₹271 per user in the September quarter, up from ₹256 a year earlier. In its 5 November release, the company reported India mobile revenue growth of 10.1% year on year and described both customer additions and improved realisation. Average revenue per user, or ARPU, can rise when more customers choose higher-priced plans or when existing users spend more. The average leaves open how the bill and the service changed for someone on a particular plan. Airtel exchange filing

Airtel also reported 1.2 million net postpaid additions and 2.9 million smartphone data customer additions. Those disclosures make the changing mix a reasonable line of enquiry. They cannot tell a customer whether coverage improved at home or whether a billing problem was resolved on the first call. Airtel exchange filing

Compare the bill with the experience

Under Consumer Trust & Sentiment in the Powerful Brands methodology, WCRC would ask whether customers have evidence that a higher bill buys something they value. Start with customers on comparable plans in comparable areas. Check what changed in the price and allowance, then look for published measures of network availability, billing complaints and how quickly repeat complaints close. If a different mix of plans explains part of the increase, changes in service can be assessed alongside it. Powerful Brands methodology

Churn could help, provided the comparison accounts for retention offers and the effort of switching. Someone can stay with a provider because its coverage is better on their commute or because their household has bundled several services. Useful evidence would distinguish those situations, for instance through customer feedback tied to the plan and the service area. The quarter establishes higher average revenue. Plan-level satisfaction remains a separate question. WCRC MegaBrands Airtel record
