How the Power Score adds up
Each pillar's score multiplied by its WCRC weight. The segments sum to 74.16.
Airbus is powerful because airlines keep choosing it. In October 2025 the A320 family overtook the Boeing 737 as the best-selling airliner in history, and the orders have not slowed: in October 2026 alone Avolon ordered 110 aircraft and Aviation Capital Group 75 A320neos. First-Choice Consumer Preference and Purchase Intent & Consideration Index both score 88. For a buyer of jets there are essentially two major suppliers, and Airbus has become the default.
The order book now feeds fast-rising profits. Revenue rose 6% to EUR73.4bn in 2025, adjusted EBIT jumped 33% to EUR7.1bn and net income climbed 23% to EUR5.2bn. Competitive Financial Position scores 90, Airbus's highest parameter, and with S&P rating it A+ and Moody's A1, both stable, Financial Stability Indicator reaches 88. Product Portfolio Strength & Logic also scores 88: a full family of airliners sits alongside the world's leading helicopter business, defence and space. The A350F freighter flew for the first time on 29 September 2026.
Recognition matches the size. Unaided Brand Recall scores 88 and Brand Positioning & Recall is its strongest WCRC pillar at 78.4, rare for a company whose customers are airlines rather than travellers. What holds Airbus back is its past. Bribery settlements in 2020 totalling more than EUR3.6bn in France, the UK and the US still weigh on ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance, its lowest parameter at 56, and Sustainability, Governance & ESG is its weakest pillar at 64.2.
Why Airbus ranks #86
Airbus's power comes from record profits, an order book that makes it the first choice of the world's airlines, and a balance sheet rated in the A range. Brand Positioning & Recall, at 78.4, is its strongest WCRC pillar.
5.09Competitive Financial Position90
Competitive Financial Position: in 2025 revenue rose 6% to EUR73.4bn, adjusted EBIT 33% to EUR7.1bn and net income 23% to EUR5.2bn. It is Airbus's top score, at 90.
2.04First-Choice Consumer Preference88
First-Choice Consumer Preference: the A320 family overtook the Boeing 737 in October 2025 to become the best-selling airliner ever. It scores 88.
5.07Financial Stability Indicator88
Financial Stability Indicator: S&P rates Airbus A+ and Moody's A1, both with stable outlooks, as of June 2026. It scores 88.
The Achilles' heel
4.08ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance56
ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance scores 56, Airbus's lowest. In 2020 it paid record bribery settlements of EUR2.1bn in France, EUR984m in the UK and EUR526m in the US, and in 2024 it faced questions over links to Myanmar and to Chinese military supplier AVIC.
What would move it: Years of clean compliance, clearer reporting on export and partner due diligence, and a full published sustainability report would let Airbus close this chapter.
The 2026 story
Airbus reported a strong 2025. Revenue rose 6% to EUR73.42bn, of which Commercial Aircraft contributed EUR52.58bn, adjusted EBIT rose 33% to EUR7.13bn and net income rose 23% to EUR5.22bn. In June 2026 S&P confirmed its A+ rating with a stable outlook.
The year brought milestones. The A320 family, which overtook the Boeing 737 as the best-selling airliner ever in October 2025, kept winning orders, including 110 aircraft for Avolon and 75 A320neos for Aviation Capital Group in October 2026. The A350F freighter made its maiden flight on 29 September 2026.
The risks are delivery and reputation. Turning a huge order book into delivered aircraft depends on a stretched supply chain, and Airbus's legacy of bribery settlements still shapes how it is judged on governance. The A320 was the first commercial jet with digital fly-by-wire controls; Airbus's next test is whether it can deliver at the pace its customers demand.
