What makes JD.com powerful
JD.com's promise to Chinese shoppers is simple: the goods are genuine and they arrive fast. It keeps that promise by owning the chain from warehouse to doorstep, through a nationwide logistics network it built itself. That model gives JD.com its strongest WCRC results, all in delivery and digital commerce: E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability at 94, Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery at 88, and Supply Chain Reliability & Availability at 86. Its Product, Innovation & Delivery pillar score of 78.6 is the 40th-highest in the WCRC World's Most Powerful 100 Brands 2026.
Scale does the rest. Net revenues rose 13% to RMB1,309bn in 2025, and its annual 618 shopping festival draws wide coverage every year. Purchase Intent & Consideration Index scores 82. JD.com also treats its workforce differently from many platforms: it was the first to give full-time delivery riders full social insurance and housing-fund contributions, and Employee Wellbeing, Equity & Employer Brand scores 78. It runs two certified zero-carbon or carbon-neutral logistics parks and more than 14,000 new-energy vehicles.
The cost of growth showed in 2025. JD.com's push into food delivery, fought against Meituan and Alibaba, produced an operating loss of RMB46.6bn in its New Businesses segment, and net income attributable to shareholders fell 53% to RMB19.6bn. Regulators summoned it over delivery subsidies, and a US defence-department listing in January 2025 adds geopolitical risk. Recall outside China is low, and Consumer Trust & Sentiment, at 71.0, trails most of the edition.
Why JD.com ranks #97
JD.com's three highest WCRC parameters all come from the same decision: to build and run its own delivery network.
5.04E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability94
E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability: the platform is the business, and it generated net revenues of RMB1,309bn in 2025, up 13%.
3.08Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery88
Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery: JD.com is a digital-native retailer whose own logistics network, warehouse automation and retail technology make fast delivery routine.
3.09Supply Chain Reliability & Availability86
Supply Chain Reliability & Availability: owning its nationwide logistics network lets JD.com control availability and delivery times, the basis of its promise of genuine goods delivered fast.
The Achilles' heel
2.02Net Promoter Score (NPS)60
Net Promoter Score scores 60, the weakness WCRC flags for JD.com. There is no published evidence that customers actively recommend JD.com beyond its reputation for authenticity, and the 2025 food-delivery price war focused attention on subsidies rather than service.
What would move it: Measuring and publishing customer advocacy, and building on its PLUS membership and after-sales reputation to turn satisfied buyers into promoters, would give JD.com a loyalty story to match its logistics.
The 2026 story
JD.com's 2025 results, published in March 2026, showed both its strength and its costs. Net revenues rose 13% to RMB1,309bn, but net income attributable to ordinary shareholders fell to RMB19.6bn from RMB41.4bn as the food-delivery business lost RMB46.6bn.
The food-delivery war with Meituan and Alibaba drew heavy global coverage and the attention of China's market regulator, which summoned JD.com in July and September 2025 over subsidies, without a fine. At the same time JD.com expanded its green logistics, adding green power at its headquarters from January 2026.
The risks in 2026 are profit and politics. The company must show that food delivery can earn money, while its listing by the US Department of Defense in January 2025 keeps geopolitical pressure on a brand that is still almost entirely domestic.
