What makes Uber powerful

Uber is one of the few brands that became a verb in under two decades. People 'get an Uber' in cities across about 70 countries, and that is why Brand Positioning & Recall is its strongest WCRC pillar, at 83.5. Unaided Brand Recall and Top-of-Mind Awareness both score 92: in most of its markets Uber is the default name for ride-hailing. Brand Extension Credibility scores 88 because the brand has stretched convincingly from rides into food delivery with Uber Eats, freight and, from 2026, parking through its purchase of SpotHero.

The second source of power is the app. Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery is Uber's highest parameter, at 94, and E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability scores 92: about 42 million trips and orders a day, for more than 202 million monthly users, run entirely through software. Digital Presence & Financial Soundness scores 79.7. The money now follows: in 2025 revenue rose 18% to US$52.0bn, gross bookings rose 19% to US$193.5bn, operating income was US$5.6bn and net income US$10.1bn, helped by a US$5.0bn tax benefit. All three major agencies rate Uber investment grade. Future Readiness & Strategic Relevance scores 90 as Uber builds an autonomous business, with up to US$1.25bn committed to Rivian robotaxis, an Nvidia partnership and the first driverless rides in the UK with Wayve in September 2026.

The weakness is trust and governance. Sustainability, Governance & ESG is its lowest pillar at 58.5, and ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance scores just 42. Uber faces more than 3,000 sexual-assault lawsuits, a US FTC suit over its Uber One subscription joined by 21 states, and a EUR290m Dutch privacy fine. Consumer Trust & Sentiment is 68.0. Uber's power is habit at global scale; its challenge is to earn the trust that should come with it.

Why Uber ranks #92

Uber's power comes from an app used tens of millions of times a day and a name that has become the word for its category. Its strongest WCRC parameters reflect both.

  1. 3.08Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery94

Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery: every Uber ride and order is booked, matched, paid for and tracked in the app, about 42 million trips and orders a day. It is Uber's highest-scoring parameter, at 94.

  2. 1.02Unaided Brand Recall92

Unaided Brand Recall: 'Uber' is used as a verb for hailing a ride, and the brand serves more than 202 million monthly users in about 70 countries.

  3. 5.04E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability92

E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability: Uber is entirely digital commerce, and in 2025 gross bookings on its platform rose 19% to US$193.5bn.

The Achilles' heel

4.08ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance42

ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance scores 42, Uber's lowest. The Dutch data protection authority fined Uber EUR290m in 2024 over drivers' data transfers, the US FTC sued over Uber One enrolment and cancellation in a case joined by 21 states and DC in December 2025, and more than 3,000 sexual-assault lawsuits are pending.

What would move it: Making Uber One as easy to cancel as to join, resolving the safety litigation with visible changes to rider protection, and publishing clear compliance reporting would lift its weakest scores.

The 2026 story

Uber had its strongest financial year in 2025. Revenue rose 18% to US$52.0bn, gross bookings rose 19% to US$193.5bn and net income reached US$10.1bn, including a US$5.0bn tax benefit. Operating income was US$5.6bn.

Autonomous driving moved to the centre of its strategy. Uber agreed to invest up to US$1.25bn in Rivian to deploy up to 50,000 robotaxis through 2031, is rolling out Nvidia Drive technology in 28 cities, and created an Uber Autonomous Solutions division in February 2026. On 2 September 2026 Wayve and Uber launched the first autonomous rides in the UK. It also announced the purchase of parking app SpotHero.

The risks are legal. More than 3,000 sexual-assault lawsuits have been combined in US courts since February 2024, and the FTC's case over Uber One was joined by 21 states and DC in December 2025. In an irony of its history, Uber's founders called peer-to-peer ridesharing illegal in 2011 and 2012 before adopting it in 2013.
