Amazon is ranked #9 in the WCRC World's Most Powerful 100 Brands 2026, with a WCRC Power Score of 81.59. No brand scores higher on e-commerce capability, and its pull spans online retail, Prime, devices and AWS, the cloud business that now funds much of its next decade.

How the Power Score adds up
Each pillar's score multiplied by its WCRC weight. The segments sum to 81.59.
Amazon's power rests on being the default place to buy almost anything online. Its strongest WCRC pillar is Digital Presence & Financial Soundness at 90.5, followed closely by Product, Innovation & Delivery at 87.3 and Brand Positioning & Recall at 87.2. E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability scores 99, the highest mark Amazon earns on any of the 50 parameters, and Website Authority & Digital UX scores 96. Amazon runs 24 country marketplaces, and in 2025 it sold US$716.9bn of goods and services, up 12% on the year.
The second driver is the machine behind the storefront. Amazon owns its logistics network, which lets it make and keep fast delivery promises at a scale no other retailer matches; Supply Chain Reliability & Availability scores 90 and Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery 96. AWS adds a second brand engine. Cloud revenue reached US$128.7bn in 2025, up 20%, and the company plans around US$200bn of capital spending in 2026, mostly for AI infrastructure. That is why Innovation Pipeline & R&D Orientation (95) and Future Readiness & Strategic Relevance (94) sit among its top scores.
Money and trust from lenders complete the picture. Moody's affirmed Amazon at A1 with a stable outlook in February 2026, and a record bond sale of about US$54bn in March drew orders of roughly US$126bn. The weak pillar is Sustainability, Governance & ESG at 62.6. Emissions rose 16% in 2025 as data centres expanded, and some 30,000 corporate job cuts since October 2025 weigh on its employer brand. Amazon is powerful because people rely on it daily, not because they love it, and that gap is where its score is lost.
Why Amazon ranks #9
Amazon's power is built on a storefront that hundreds of millions of people use without thinking, recall that crosses every age group, and a delivery and cloud infrastructure that keeps the promise. Its WCRC Power Score of 81.59 places it #9 in the world in 2026.
5.04E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability99
E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability: Amazon scores 99, its highest mark. It runs 24 national marketplaces and its online stores, third-party seller services and Prime subscriptions together brought in most of its US$716.9bn of 2025 sales.
1.02Unaided Brand Recall97
Unaided Brand Recall: Amazon is one of the few brands people name without prompting in shopping, streaming and cloud alike. Its spread from books in 1995 to retail, devices, Prime Video and AWS keeps the name in daily use.
3.08Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery96
Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery: Amazon's own logistics network, warehouse robotics and AWS cloud make delivery fast and dependable. AWS sales rose 20% to US$128.7bn in 2025.
The Achilles' heel
4.01Environmental Impact & Decarbonisation56
Environmental Impact & Decarbonisation scores 56, Amazon's lowest. The company's carbon emissions rose 16% in 2025, driven by the build-out of AI data centres, which works against its public climate commitments.
What would move it: Publishing a clear path to cut data-centre emissions, backed by contracted clean power and year-by-year targets, would lift this score and the linked sustainability communication score.
The 2026 story
Amazon opened 2026 with its boldest bet yet. In February it set out a plan to spend about US$200bn on capital projects this year, mostly AI infrastructure for AWS. Investors flinched at first: the shares fell more than 9% in a day. In March Amazon raised about US$54bn in record US-dollar and debut euro bond sales to help fund the build-out.
The results turned the mood. Full-year 2025 sales reached US$716.9bn, up 12%, with operating income of US$80.0bn. AWS then posted its fastest growth in more than four years, and on 3 August 2026 Amazon's market value passed US$3tn for the first time.
The costs are real. About 14,000 corporate roles were cut in October 2025 and around 16,000 more in January 2026, with AI efficiency given as a reason. Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go stores were closed, and emissions rose 16% in 2025. These are the pressure points on a brand that customers use heavily but trust less than its scale would suggest.

WCRC analysis
Amazon's net sales rose every year, from US$469.8bn in 2021 to US$716.9bn in 2025, an increase of about 53%. Profit took a different path. Operating income halved to US$12.2bn in 2022, a 2.4% margin, as post-pandemic costs bit, then recovered to US$80.0bn in 2025, a margin of 11.2%.
The recovery is the defining story. Margins more than quadrupled in three years as Amazon cut costs in its retail network and AWS and advertising grew. A brand that once traded profit for reach now has both, and that cash is what pays for its AI build-out and keeps its recall and delivery advantage intact.
