What makes Salesforce powerful

Salesforce is powerful because it made customer relationship management a cloud product and still sets the pace for it. Businesses run sales, service and marketing on its platform, and switching away is costly, which keeps customers for years. Its strongest WCRC parameter is Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery at 90, and Digital Presence & Financial Soundness is its best pillar at 79.8, followed by Positioning & Recall at 78.8.

In 2026 the brand's story is AI agents. Agentforce now runs across every Customer 360 application, and in April 2026 Salesforce launched Headless 360, exposing platform functions as APIs, MCP servers and command-line tools. Agentforce annual recurring revenue reached US$800m by the end of fiscal 2026, up 169%, from more than 29,000 deals. Digital Innovation & Technology Adoption scores 88 and Innovation Pipeline & R&D Orientation 86. Acquisitions of Informatica, completed in November 2025, and Contentful, closed in September 2026, add data and content capabilities.

The financial base is large and growing. Revenue rose about 10% to US$41.5bn in the year to January 2026, GAAP operating income reached US$8.3bn and remaining performance obligation stood at US$72.4bn. Salesforce also pioneered the 1-1-1 philanthropy model. Trust & Sentiment is the weak pillar at 70.2: data-theft campaigns that reached customers through third-party integrations, political remarks by its chief executive and a credit downgrade after a US$50bn share buyback all weighed on sentiment.

Why Salesforce ranks #64

Salesforce's power comes from being the platform where companies manage their customers, delivered entirely in the cloud and now rebuilt around AI agents.

  1. 3.08Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery90

Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery: Salesforce has delivered its software from the cloud since 1999, and Agentforce now runs inside every Customer 360 app.

  2. 5.06Digital Innovation & Technology Adoption88

Digital Innovation & Technology Adoption: Headless 360, launched in April 2026, exposes the platform as APIs, MCP servers and CLI commands for AI agents.

  3. 3.02Innovation Pipeline & R&D Orientation86

Innovation Pipeline & R&D Orientation: Agentforce ARR reached US$800m in fiscal 2026, up 169%, and the Informatica and Contentful deals widen its data and content base.

The Achilles' heel

3.06Packaging & Sensory Brand Experience60

Packaging & Sensory Brand Experience scores 60, Salesforce's lowest. As a pure software brand it has few physical or sensory touchpoints beyond its Dreamforce event and its Astro mascots.

What would move it: Extending the Dreamforce and Trailhead experience into more local, in-person and branded customer moments would give the brand a more tangible presence.

The 2026 story

Salesforce spent 2026 betting on AI agents. Agentforce became part of every Customer 360 app, and the April launch of Headless 360 opened the platform to outside AI agents. The company closed its roughly US$8bn Informatica acquisition in November 2025 and the US$1.5bn Contentful deal on 1 September 2026.

Growth held up. Fiscal 2026 revenue was US$41.5bn and GAAP operating income US$8.3bn, a 20% margin. Salesforce guided to revenue of US$45.8bn to US$46.2bn for fiscal 2027. In February 2026 it announced a US$50bn share-repurchase programme, after which Moody's cut its rating to A2 and S&P moved its outlook to negative.

Trust is the risk. The ShinyHunters group ran data-theft and extortion campaigns against Salesforce customers through third-party integrations, leading to lawsuits, and Marc Benioff's comments on immigration enforcement prompted internal dissent. Competition from AI-native software companies is also rising.

WCRC analysis

Revenue grew from US$26.5bn in fiscal 2022 to US$41.5bn in fiscal 2026, up 57%, or about 12% a year. Growth slowed each year, from 18% in fiscal 2023 to under 10% in fiscal 2026, as the core CRM market matured.

The bigger change is profitability. GAAP operating income rose from US$548m, a 2% margin, to US$8.3bn, a 20% margin, with the biggest step in fiscal 2024. Salesforce turned from a growth story into a cash generator, which funds its AI investment and acquisitions.
