World's Most Powerful 100 Brands 2026 · Second Global Mega Edition
#91 Airbnb
Airbnb is ranked #91 in the WCRC World's Most Powerful 100 Brands 2026, with a WCRC Power Score of 73.94. Its name has become the everyday word for a short-term home rental, and its digital platform scores among the strongest WCRC recorded, but regulatory conflict with cities holds its trust and ESG scores back.
Five WCRC pillars, 50 parameters, each scored 0 to 100 against global sector peers. The pillar weights set how much each one counts toward the Power Score.

How the Power Score adds up
Each pillar's score multiplied by its WCRC weight. The segments sum to 73.94.
Airbnb is powerful because it named a category. People say they are 'getting an Airbnb' the way they once said they were booking a hotel, so Top-of-Mind Awareness and Positioning Clarity & Coherence both score 88 in the WCRC World's Most Powerful 100 Brands 2026. The 'belong anywhere' idea, unique homes hosted by more than 5.5 million people in almost every country, sets it apart from both hotels and online travel agents, and the Bélo logo is instantly recognisable.
The second driver is the platform. E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability scores 94, Airbnb's highest parameter and one of the highest digital commerce scores in the ranking, and Technology & Digitalisation of Delivery scores 90. Everything from search to payment to support happens in the app, and Airbnb's AI assistant now works in more than 50 languages and resolves about 45% of issues without a human. Digital Presence & Financial Soundness, at 80.8, ranks 26th of 100. The business is strong: revenue rose 10% to US$12.24bn in 2025 on gross booking value of US$91.3bn, net income was US$2.51bn, and in March 2026 Airbnb sold its first investment-grade bonds, rated A- by S&P and Baa1 by Moody's. Second-quarter 2026 revenue grew 17% and it raised its full-year growth outlook to at least the mid-teens, helped by new services, boutique hotels and Experiences.
The weak side is its relationship with the places it operates in. Cities from New York to Barcelona have restricted short-term rentals, and Airbnb faces lawsuits over data, hotel taxes and 2025 wildfire pricing. Consumer Trust & Sentiment scores 70.0, 94th of 100, and Sustainability, Governance & ESG 62.4, 91st.

The Achilles' heel
4.08ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance54
ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance scores 54, Airbnb's lowest parameter. It is in persistent conflict with cities such as New York, Barcelona and Paris over short-term rental rules, faces data and hotel tax suits from several cities and Belgium, was sued over price gouging during the 2025 California wildfires, and in May 2026 a Brazilian court ruled that condo stays need two-thirds owner approval.
What would move it: Working with cities on registration, tax collection and caps before rules are imposed, and publishing data on Airbnb's effect on local housing, would ease the regulatory squeeze and lift trust.
The 2026 story
Growth picked up in 2026. Second-quarter revenue rose 17% to US$3.6bn, net income was US$816m, nights and seats booked grew 10% and gross booking value 16%. Airbnb raised its full-year revenue growth guidance to at least the mid-teens.
The brand is stretching beyond homes. Airbnb added services such as grocery delivery, car rentals and airport pickups, began listing boutique hotels, and grew Experiences supply by about 80% year on year. In March 2026 it sold its first investment-grade bonds, and its market value stood at about US$105bn in late October.
Regulation remains the main risk. Restrictions on short-term rentals keep spreading through major cities, Brazil's Superior Court of Justice ruled in May 2026 that short stays in condominiums need two-thirds owner approval, and lawsuits over data, taxes and wildfire pricing continue.
