What makes TSMC powerful
TSMC is powerful because the companies that shape modern technology cannot build their best products without it. It makes the leading-edge chips designed by Apple, Nvidia, AMD and many others. In the WCRC World's Most Powerful 100 Brands 2026 its strongest pillar is Product, Innovation & Delivery at 85.8, with Perceived Product & Service Quality and Innovation Pipeline & R&D Orientation both at 97. TSMC began volume production of its 2nm (N2) process in late 2025 and introduced its A13 process in April 2026.
Trust is the second pillar of its power, at 81.0. Customers hand TSMC their most valuable designs because it promises never to compete with them, and that neutral-partner model has held for almost four decades. First-Choice Consumer Preference and Consumer Loyalty & Retention Proxy both score 92, reflecting deep multi-year customer lock-in. Future Readiness & Strategic Relevance scores 96: TSMC has raised its planned investment in Arizona to US$265bn and is building fabs in Japan and Germany.
The financial record is exceptional. Net revenue rose 31.6% to NT$3,809bn in 2025, operating margin reached 50.8% and net income was NT$1,718bn. S&P rates TSMC AA- and Moody's Aa2, both with positive outlooks. Competitive Financial Position scores 98, one of the highest marks WCRC gave any brand. The lower pillar is Brand Positioning & Recall at 70.8: TSMC sells to businesses, so ordinary consumers rarely know its name even when they carry its chips.
Why TSMC ranks #38
TSMC's three highest-rated strengths come from the same source: it makes the best chips, it keeps inventing the next process, and the profits fund the cycle.
5.09Competitive Financial Position98
Competitive Financial Position: TSMC earned net income of NT$1,718bn on net revenue of NT$3,809bn in 2025, an operating margin of 50.8%.
3.01Perceived Product & Service Quality97
Perceived Product & Service Quality: yield and process leadership make TSMC the default manufacturer for leading-edge chips from Apple, Nvidia and AMD.
3.02Innovation Pipeline & R&D Orientation97
Innovation Pipeline & R&D Orientation: 2nm production started in late 2025 and the A13 process was introduced in April 2026.
The Achilles' heel
5.04E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability60
E-Commerce & Digital Commerce Capability scores 60, among TSMC's weaker results. As a contract manufacturer it sells through long negotiated agreements with a small number of very large customers, so it has no digital sales channel to speak of.
What would move it: Digital commerce matters little to TSMC's model. Clearer digital tools for smaller chip designers would lift the score where it counts.
The 2026 story
2026 was another record year in the making for TSMC. Demand for AI chips kept its most advanced lines full, and second-quarter profit rose about 77% year on year. Third-quarter earnings per share reached NT$29.43.
The company kept spreading its footprint. In July 2026 it added US$100bn to its US plans, taking total planned investment in Arizona to US$265bn. It formed an image-sensor joint venture with Sony Semiconductor Solutions and a High-NA EUV photomask initiative with ASML in August and September 2026.
The risks are geopolitical. Most of TSMC's leading-edge capacity remains in Taiwan. Export controls are a constant concern after TSMC told the US Commerce Department in October 2024 that one of its chips had reached Huawei through a third party, and in August 2025 prosecutors charged people over the alleged theft of 2nm trade secrets.

WCRC analysis
Net revenue rose 2.4 times in four years, from NT$1,587bn in 2021 to NT$3,809bn in 2025. The only dip came in 2023, when a global chip inventory correction cut revenue by 4.5% and operating income by 18%. AI demand then drove two years of very fast growth, including 31.6% in 2025.
Operating income tripled to NT$1,936bn, and the margin widened from about 41% to 50.8%. Few manufacturers of any kind earn half of every sale as operating profit. It shows that customers pay a premium for TSMC's leading-edge processes, and it funds the hundreds of billions in new fabs that keep rivals behind.
