How the Power Score adds up
Each pillar's score multiplied by its WCRC weight. The segments sum to 73.69.
UPS is powerful because it is visible. Its brown trucks and uniformed drivers appear on ordinary streets every working day, and the colour itself has become the brand: UPS chose 'Pullman brown' because yellow trucks would be hard to keep clean, and it never resells retired vans: they are stripped, painted over and crushed. Visual Identity Distinctiveness scores 92, UPS's highest parameter, and Unaided Brand Recall 90. Brand Positioning & Recall is its strongest WCRC pillar at 80.2.
Trust is the second pillar of its power. Composite Consumer Trust Score and Competitive Trust Differential both score 86: people hand UPS things that matter to them, and it out-trusts its delivery rivals. That trust is backed by reach, with package delivery in more than 220 countries and territories, and by a tracking website that has become a daily tool for shippers and shoppers, lifting Website Authority & Digital UX to 80. S&P rates UPS A, and Financial Stability Indicator scores 84.
The past year has been hard. Revenue fell 2.6% to US$88.7bn in 2025 as UPS deliberately shed lower-margin Amazon volume, and in November 2025 an MD-11 cargo jet crashed after take-off from Louisville, killing 15 people. UPS has since decided to retire its MD-11s early. A network reconfiguration involving 48,000 job cuts pushes Employee Wellbeing, Equity & Employer Brand down to 58, its lowest parameter, and Consumer Trust & Sentiment sits at 71.8. Second-quarter 2026 revenue rose 7.6%, and full-year guidance was raised to about US$91.2bn, a sign that the slimmer network is starting to pay off.
Why UPS ranks #98
UPS's power comes from a visual identity people see on their street every day, recall that makes it a first name in parcel delivery, and trust earned over more than a century. Brand Positioning & Recall, at 80.2, is its strongest WCRC pillar.
1.10Visual Identity Distinctiveness92
Visual Identity Distinctiveness: Pullman brown trucks, brown uniforms and the shield logo make UPS recognisable without a word of text. It is the brand's top score, at 92.
1.02Unaided Brand Recall90
Unaided Brand Recall: with delivery in more than 220 countries and territories, UPS is one of the first names people give for sending a parcel. It scores 90.
2.01Composite Consumer Trust Score86
Composite Consumer Trust Score: people hand UPS parcels that matter to them every day, and its score of 86 is among the 20 highest in the WCRC top 100.
The Achilles' heel
4.05Employee Wellbeing, Equity & Employer Brand58
Employee Wellbeing, Equity & Employer Brand scores 58, UPS's lowest. Its network reconfiguration, which has closed facilities and cut aircraft and vehicles as Amazon volumes wind down, includes 48,000 job cuts.
What would move it: Clear support for affected employees and a stable plan for the remaining workforce, communicated openly, would help UPS keep the driver loyalty its service depends on.
The 2026 story
2026 has been a year of recovery for UPS. After revenue fell 2.6% to US$88.7bn in 2025, with GAAP operating profit of US$7.9bn, second-quarter 2026 revenue rose 7.6% to US$22.83bn. UPS raised its full-year guidance to about US$91.2bn in revenue and about US$5.5bn in free cash flow.
The year was overshadowed by tragedy. On a November 2025 flight from Louisville, a UPS MD-11 crashed after take-off, killing 15 people. US investigators are examining a cracked engine-mount bearing, and the type was grounded. UPS decided to retire its MD-11s early and replace the remaining 26 with Boeing 767s, keeping them grounded even after regulators approved a return-to-service plan in May 2026.
The bigger strategic shift is volume. UPS is deliberately reducing its Amazon business, with average daily volume down 3.3% in the second quarter, and reshaping its network with fewer facilities, vehicles, aircraft and staff. Its market value of about US$85bn in October 2026 shows investors are still waiting for proof that a smaller UPS will be a stronger one.
