What makes Porsche powerful

Porsche's power lives in its design and what it stands for. Brand Positioning & Recall is its strongest WCRC pillar at 80.9, and Positioning Clarity & Coherence is its highest parameter at 90: Porsche is the sports car other sports cars are measured against, and has been for decades. The crest and the shape of the 911 are recognised at a glance, and Visual Identity Distinctiveness scores 89. Brand Personality Coherence scores 88 because precision, performance and everyday usability have defined the brand from the 911 to the Taycan.

The product side holds up. Product, Innovation & Delivery scores 76.6, with Perceived Product & Service Quality at 86 and Packaging & Sensory Brand Experience at 88: the sound, the feel of the controls and the delivery experience are part of the purchase. Consumer Trust & Sentiment scores 73.6, supported by deep enthusiast affinity (Brand Love & Emotional Affinity, 86) and trust that ranks ahead of most car makers.

The weakness is money and momentum. Digital Presence & Financial Soundness is 70.2. In 2025 revenue fell 9.5% to EUR36.3bn and operating profit fell 92.7% to EUR413m, a return on sales of 1.1% against 14.1% a year earlier, after Porsche reversed parts of its electric strategy at a cost of EUR3.9bn and sales in China fell 26%. Sentiment Trajectory is its weakest parameter at 60. There are signs of recovery: under new chief executive Michael Leiters, the operating margin rose to 7.8% in the first half of 2026 and automotive net liquidity stood at EUR7.3bn. Porsche's power rests on a 911-shaped promise that has outlasted every downturn so far, and the question is how quickly the numbers return to match it.

Why Porsche ranks #76

Porsche's brand power is built on clarity and recognition: everyone knows what a Porsche is for and what one looks like. Brand Positioning & Recall, at 80.9, is its strongest WCRC pillar.

Positioning Clarity & Coherence: Porsche is the benchmark for sports cars, and its promise of everyday performance has held from the 911 to the electric Taycan. It is Porsche's highest-scoring parameter, at 90.

  2. 1.10Visual Identity Distinctiveness89

Visual Identity Distinctiveness: the Stuttgart crest and the 911's sloping silhouette make a Porsche recognisable at a glance, in any market.

  3. 1.06Brand Personality Coherence88

Brand Personality Coherence: precision, performance and engineering pride come through consistently, from racing and the 911 to the Cayenne and Taycan.

The Achilles' heel

2.09Sentiment Trajectory (12-Month Trend)60

Sentiment Trajectory (12-Month Trend) scores 60, Porsche's joint lowest. Operating profit fell 92.7% in 2025 after a EUR3.9bn write-down on its electric strategy, sales in China fell 26%, and deliveries fell 16.5% in the first half of 2026.

What would move it: Turning the first-half 2026 margin recovery into a full-year rebound, with a clear and consistent plan for electric and combustion models, would restore confidence.

The 2026 story

Porsche began 2026 with a new leader. Michael Leiters succeeded Oliver Blume as chief executive on 1 January, ending Blume's dual role at Volkswagen and Porsche. He inherited a hard year: 2025 revenue fell 9.5% to EUR36.3bn and operating profit fell from EUR5.64bn to EUR413m.

The causes were a costly change of course on electric cars, a EUR3.9bn write-down, a fall of 26% in China sales after a 28% fall in 2024, and US tariffs. Production of the combustion 718 Boxster and Cayman ended in October 2025, with electric successors promised. Battery-electric cars made up 19.4% of deliveries in the first half of 2026, down from 23.5%.

The first half of 2026 brought relief. Revenue was EUR17.23bn and the operating margin rose to 7.8% from 5.5%, despite 16.5% fewer deliveries, and Porsche confirmed its full-year guidance. Its market value was EUR38.41bn in mid-October 2026.
