#100 LinkedIn
LinkedIn is ranked #100 in the WCRC World's Most Powerful 100 Brands 2026, with a WCRC Power Score of 73.64. It is the default name for professional networking, with 1.3 billion registered members and US$19.8bn of revenue, and Microsoft's balance sheet behind it, though privacy disputes keep its trust scores low.
Five WCRC pillars, 50 parameters, each scored 0 to 100 against global sector peers. The pillar weights set how much each one counts toward the Power Score.

How the Power Score adds up
Each pillar's score multiplied by its WCRC weight. The segments sum to 73.64.
LinkedIn has something most social networks never achieve: a category to itself. When people think of a professional profile, a job search or a recruiter's message, they think of LinkedIn, and Top-of-Mind Awareness scores 92 in WCRC's results. Brand Positioning & Recall is one of its two strongest pillars, at 81.0. Positioning Clarity & Coherence scores 90 and Brand Differentiation Index 86, because no rival operates at its scale. With 1.3 billion registered members in more than 200 countries and territories, LinkedIn has become the place where careers are displayed and hiring begins, and First-Choice Consumer Preference scores 88.
Its other strong pillar is Digital Presence & Financial Soundness, also at 81.0. Financial Stability Indicator is its highest parameter, at 94, because LinkedIn is owned by Microsoft, which bought it in December 2016 for US$26.2bn and holds AAA credit ratings. In Microsoft's fiscal 2026, the year to 30 June, LinkedIn revenue rose 11.3% to US$19.8bn from US$17.8bn. Website Authority & Digital UX scores 92: linkedin.com is among the most visited sites in the world. LinkedIn keeps adding ways to earn, from its Hiring Assistant 2 recruiting AI to connected-TV advertising and a creator marketplace, and its workforce and skills reports from the Economic Graph are widely quoted (Content Quality & Thought Leadership, 86).
The weak side is affection and trust. Consumer Trust & Sentiment is its lowest pillar after sustainability, at 67.2. Many members see LinkedIn as a tool they need, not a brand they love, and complaints about AI-generated posts led it to add new reporting tools in July 2026. Privacy disputes, including class actions over alleged browser-extension scanning, and a UK ICO intervention on AI training data weigh on its compliance scores. LinkedIn's power is that of a network effect: the more professionals use it, the harder it is to leave.
Why LinkedIn ranks #100
LinkedIn's brand power combines Microsoft's financial strength with a dominant digital platform and a name that defines its category. Its three strongest WCRC parameters score 94, 92 and 92.

The Achilles' heel
4.08ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance52
ESG Ratings & Regulatory Compliance scores 52, LinkedIn's joint lowest. The UK ICO intervened in 2024 over the use of member data for AI training, and LinkedIn faces two California class actions and a German suit over alleged covert scanning of browser extensions.
What would move it: Clear opt-in consent for AI training, transparent answers on the browser-extension allegations and a published privacy report would rebuild trust with members and regulators.
The 2026 story
2026 brought new leadership. Daniel Shapero succeeded Ryan Roslansky as chief executive in April, with Roslansky becoming executive vice president for LinkedIn and Microsoft 365. In Microsoft's fiscal year to 30 June 2026, LinkedIn revenue rose 11.3% to US$19.8bn.
LinkedIn pushed further into advertising and AI. It launched connected-TV advertising through Amazon DSP in May and Google Display & Video 360 in October, opened a creator marketplace in June, and in September released Hiring Assistant 2 and wider verification for members and businesses.
The risks centre on trust. Allegations known as 'Browsergate', of covert browser-extension scanning, have led to two class actions in California and a suit in Germany, and the company cut about 5% of jobs in May 2026. One lesser-known fact: Apache Kafka, the widely used data-streaming software, was built and open-sourced at LinkedIn in 2011.
